The technical definition as to what causes acne is the sebaceous glands. They make sebum which is a nice oil to keep your skin moisturized. If they make too much the pores in your skin can become clogged with this oil, the bacteria then gets trapped and starts to multiply. This process will cause your skin to appear red and swelled up. But what causes acne isn’t always that simple because if the pore gets clogged more it will bulge out from the skin and cause a whitehead to form. If it stays clogged for too long it will then appear to darken and cause a blackhead. And finally in the journey of what causes acne if dead skin cells make their march to underneath your skin a pimple will form.

In addition there are myths to what causes acne:

  • Certain foods: for the majority of people foods do not cause acne, they however can be a trigger to have skin produce more oil.
  • Stress: Stress really doesn’t cause it either, however it can be a trigger to producing more oil in skin as well.

What causes acne is really a question that has many different answers. There are many different things as you can see that can lead to the start of acne, as well as the continuation of acne. It is important to take the steps to prevent acne before you have to start asking what causes acne. Because once you have asked what causes acne, you will continue to look for different treatment methods to get rid of it all together and have a face free of bumps and marks from acne.
